Chloe Malle Takes the Helm at Vogue as Anna Wintour Redefines the Future of Fashion
Chloe Malle’s rise to Head of Editorial Content at American Vogue signals how the future of fashion media will blend legacy storytelling with digital-first innovation.
Anna Wintour announced that Chloe Malle, currently editor of Vogue.com and co-host of The Run-Through, has been appointed Head of Editorial Content for American Vogue, effective immediately. In her new role, Malle will lead the magazine’s editorial direction and join Vogue’s global network of 10 Heads of Editorial Content, reporting directly to Wintour.
“Fashion is the art of embracing change, but some changes run closer to one’s heart than the rest,” Wintour said in her announcement to staff. “When it came to hiring someone to edit American Vogue, letting me turn my attention more intensely to Vogue’s multifaceted growth across its global audiences and publications and events like the Met Gala and Vogue World, I knew I had one chance to get it right. I’m thrilled to announce that Chloe Malle will be the next Head of Editorial Content for our US title, leading the American magazine and guiding its digital coverage.”
Wintour praised Malle’s record across multiple platforms, noting her ability to capture fashion’s big picture. “Chloe has long been one of Vogue’s secret weapons when it comes to tracking fashion. But she is not so buried in the industry that she misses the world: Like the best designers, she understands fashion’s role shaping not just what is on the runway but the changing fabric of modern life.”
Malle, who began her career at Vogue in 2011, has held roles ranging from Social Editor to Contributing Editor, and most recently oversaw the digital arm of the brand. Since becoming editor of Vogue.com in 2023, she has doubled direct traffic and grown key metrics across major tentpoles like the Met Gala. She introduced editor-led newsletters and signature initiatives including Dogue and the Vogue Vintage Guide, while elevating Vogue Weddings to record levels of engagement.
“Fashion and media are both evolving at breakneck speed, and I am so thrilled and awed to be part of that,” Malle said. “I also feel incredibly fortunate to still have Anna just down the hall as my mentor.”
Her appointment comes at a critical moment for Vogue and Condé Nast. According to Tubular Labs, Vogue is the No. 8 U.S. Fashion & Style account by video views on Instagram, No. 10 cross-platform, and remains the largest legacy media brand in the industry. Views per video have been relatively static over the last year, even as uploads declined, indicating an opportunity to quickly energize its audience with an increased volume of video publishing.
For communicators and marketers in fashion, the move underscores the importance of appointing leaders who can balance heritage with innovation. Malle’s track record suggests she knows how to translate cultural moments into content that engages both loyal readers and new audiences. Her mix of editorial depth, digital savvy, and audience growth strategy mirrors the exact skill set that modern brand storytelling demands.
As Wintour put it, “At a moment of change both within fashion and outside it, we must continue to be both the standard-bearer and the boundary-pushing leader. Chloe has proven often that she can find the balance between American Vogue’s long, singular history and its future on the front lines of the new.” For communicators, that balance of staying true to a brand’s DNA while expanding into uncharted channels is a vital takeaway.
