The PR Industry Remembers Bill Murray of MikeWorldWide
The public relations and public affairs community is mourning the loss of Bill Murray, Executive Vice President and National Director of Public Affairs at MikeWorldWide.
Over a career spanning more than 40 years, Bill became a trusted counselor to organizations navigating some of the most complex and high-stakes challenges in public relations, public affairs, crisis management, issues management, and government relations. At MikeWorldWide, he led the firm’s regional and national public affairs practice and oversaw its 50-state government relations network, helping clients find clarity and direction in an increasingly complex environment.
Bill's leadership, however, extended far beyond his professional expertise. As Michael Kempner, Founder and CEO of MikeWorldWide, reflected: “Bill never sought the limelight. He didn’t see himself as too senior or too important to take a call, write a memo, or show up when clients needed him — always authentically, earnestly, and with solutions.”
Throughout his distinguished career, Bill earned a reputation for his humility, quiet strength, and deep commitment to his clients, colleagues, and the industry. He mentored generations of professionals, offering guidance and wisdom grounded in experience and genuine care. His steady presence, thoughtful counsel, and willingness to lead without seeking attention made him a role model for so many in our field.
While the industry has lost a true leader, Bill’s legacy lives on — not only through the clients he advised and the teams he led, but in the countless professionals who learned from his example and carry forward the values he exemplified.
Bill’s family is planning a celebration of his life; those details will be shared once available. MikeWorldWide is also working on meaningful ways to honor his extraordinary contributions to the firm, the industry, and the state he served with such deep affection.
All of us in the communications community extend our deepest condolences to Bill’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. His presence will be deeply missed.
