Happy Birthday Art Stevens!
Today, CommPRO is celebrating two special milestones for one of our profession's most respected and beloved leaders: Art Stevens' birthday and the 20th anniversary of his presidency of PRSA-NY.
There are leaders who build successful careers, and then there are leaders like Art Stevens, whose greatest legacy is measured in the people he has encouraged, connected and inspired.
As birthday tributes continue to arrive from across the communications community, a remarkable portrait of Art emerges. Peter Finn reflects on the trusted adviser whose counsel, introductions and friendship helped shape the growth of FINN Partners. Lynn Appelbaum celebrates the mentor and champion whose generosity has transformed the lives of generations of City College students through scholarships, encouragement and unwavering support. Jeanne Salvatore remembers the PRSA leader who welcomed newcomers, inspired volunteers and made service to the profession both meaningful and enjoyable.
Lynne Scott Jackson highlights Art's lifelong commitment to diversity, inclusion and creating opportunities for future communications leaders, while Lea-Ann Germinder recalls his tireless leadership on behalf of PRSA and his extraordinary ability to bring people together for the good of the profession. Henry Feintuch reflects on Art's willingness to step forward whenever help was needed, whether solving difficult challenges, mentoring colleagues or strengthening the PRSA community.
Kathy Bloomgarden points to the integrity, generosity and leadership that have influenced generations of communications professionals. Steve Cody celebrates not only Art's business instincts but also his wit, friendship and unmistakable personality. Shelley Spector remembers a creative leader who encouraged bold ideas, loved Broadway, and built lasting friendships that have endured for decades.
Taken together, these reflections tell a larger story. They describe a mentor who opened doors, a connector who believed relationships were the profession's greatest asset, a philanthropist who invested in future generations, a volunteer whose commitment to PRSA never wavered, and a friend whose kindness has touched countless lives. While each tribute is unique, they all arrive at the same conclusion: Art Stevens has made our profession stronger because he has always put people first.
Happy Birthday, Art. Thank you for your leadership, your generosity, your friendship and for reminding all of us that the true measure of success is not what we accomplish ourselves, but what we help others achieve.
This is only the beginning of our celebration. If Art Stevens has made a difference in your career or your life, we'd love to hear your story. Please send your memories, reflections and birthday wishes to editor@commpro.biz. Over the coming weeks, we'll compile these memories into a special birthday tribute book for Art, celebrating the extraordinary impact he has had on our profession and on so many lives. Stay tuned.
