CommPRO Editorial Staff
CommPRO is pleased to announce our partnership with United Way of New York City (UNWYC) to seek mission aligned corporate partners and C-Suite executives to collaborate on events and promotions in support of UWNYC long-term impact programs lifting children and families out of poverty.
Top of the list is the launch of “March United for Public Schools”; an event created to inspire the public to take action in support of our teachers, our students and to rally behind the democratic notion of public education. It’s part fundraising walk, part school spirit parade, and part awareness campaign and we’re asking all to join us Columbus Day Weekend, Sunday, October 13, 2019.
“This march is a call to all New Yorkers to support our city’s educational system and our greatest resource of the future—our students,” said Sheena Wright, President and CEO, United Way of New York City. “I am so grateful for the show of support we are already seeing from not only corporate sponsors, but from the City of New York as well.”
The march kicks off with a breakfast honoring teachers at the United Federation of Teacher’s (UFT) NYC headquarters and concludes with k-12 family festival with student performers, marching bands, sports teams, cheerleaders and choirs. The “Future Festival” will showcase a curated art tent featuring the best student art submitted and judged by a prominent committee and an arts and crafts zone where kids may make their own. There will be a playful bubble garden and SHOP UNITED, a pop-up shopping galleria, Presented by CHASE will highlight women and veteran small businesses. The Story Time tent Presented by ABC MOUSE, SCHOLASTIC, AUDIBLE and AMAZON BOOKS will feature famous faces and notable children’s authors reading throughout the day.
This family festival is from 9:00 am-2:00 pm at Borough Hall Brooklyn and open to the general public. There will be special performances by the Big Apple Circus.
CommPRO is seeking companies interested sponsoring this campaign and / or marching in support. “If a brand is committed to helping lift children out of poverty & supporting education, this New York City event, co-sponsored by The United Federation of Teachers, is the place to be”; says Fay Shapiro, CommPRO Publisher. She continues; “whether it’s to promote products or services or to support CSR or diversity initiatives, there are many reasons to get involved” Companies are encouraged to galvanize affinity groups and employee engagement activations in support. There is no minimum fundraising requirement and all are welcome to take part.
Net proceeds raised from March United for Public Schools will resource educational enrichment programs that United Way of New York City provides to New York City public schools—these programs are not currently funded by other sources.
