The program will offer partial tuition benefits of around $6,500 for each of employees’ first two years as full-time students in online courses at Arizona State University, Bloomberg reports, then full tuition benefits for their junior and senior years. That’s a nice perk for Starbucks employees, but it raises the question – why not just give workers a raise? It turns out there are two big reasons. One is the tax benefits that come from compensating employees with tuition money rather than salary.
