BlackBerry: Service Outages Continue To Create Bad Publicity, Say Analysts Mobile N Apps BlackBerry’s CEO Thornsten Heins apologized for outages in the smartphone service, though now corrected. Analysts quickly described the problems as bad publicity for the struggling phone maker as it struggles to maintain users. The outages lasted three hours and RIM posted news on its Facebook and Twitter accounts. E-mail and chat functionality was affected, arguably the two cornerstones of BlackBerry. BlackBerry Messenger is perhaps more popular than calling with its instant messaging service available to owners of the platform. Heins said 60 percent of users could have been affected, though the figure is unconfirmed. IR Bright Spot: Priceline.com Breaks Out as its Post-Earnings Recovery Continues Seeking Alpha Over a month ago I wrote that Priceline.com was not likely to recover its post-earnings losses in the near-term. Based on the bearish commentary on its European business and reminders about slowing growth rates, I figured Priceline.com (PCLN) at best would rally to $600 and stop there after hitting resistance at the 200-day moving average (DMA). Instead, PCLN has steadily pressed forward and is now in a breakout position only 6% away from closing the post-earnings gap down. It is also interesting to note that PCLN held support at 2012′s breakout point that ended a year-long trading range.

Chinese corporates have adapted to the concept of corporate social responsibility, or CSR, quickly, according to the Fortune China CSR Ranking Report 2012, by comparison with the 2011 results. Report Finds Advertisers Overlooking Black Consumers Chicago Tribune Even after absorbing a devastating economic hit from the recession, black consumers remain a potent force but are often overlooked by advertisers, according to a new research report. African-Americans are projected to have a combined spending power of $1.1 trillion by 2015, according to the report released Friday by the market-research firm Nielsen and the National Newspaper Publishers Association, which represents 200 black-oriented newspapers. As a group, African-Americans have a set of spending habits and brand loyalty that should be attractive to advertisers. More than other demographic groups, blacks tend to buy “brand-name” products, watch television and spend time shopping or frequenting fast-food restaurants, the report said.
