Media Also Commits PR Gaffes: CNN, Fox Issue Correction after Misreporting SCOTUS Ruling PRNewser Both Fox and CNN, in a rush to report this morning`s historic Supreme Court health care ruling, told everyone the exact wrong thing. That`s embarrassing.
Fox corrected itself on the air after seeing news on the SCOTUSblog that contradicted their initial statement that the health care law had been ruled unconstitutional. EVP of news for Fox News Michael Clemente has put out a statement about the gaffe that includes a poke at “one other cable network.” This statement is after the jump and gets the side eye.
CNN amended its reporting on air as well. They`ve also sent out an email to correct their previous “Breaking News” email alert and issued a statement …

Under-Reported: Facebook Surprises Users With Email Change The Wall Street Journal Facebook appeared to surprise many users this week by automatically changing the email address in their online profiles to one provided by Facebook`s own email service, as the social network seeks further inroads in the online-messaging market.
Under the change, the profiles of Facebook users with an email contact apparent in their profiles were updated to an @facebook.com address. A Facebook spokesman said in a statement that the Menlo Park, Calif., company had informed users in April it would update email addresses “to make them consistent across our site.” However, that announcement made no specific mention that users` default address shown on their profile would be switched automatically and without their knowledge. It also didn`t attract a great deal of media attention. The spokesman didn`t respond to a request for further clarification …

One-half (49.0%) of female respondents visit social media sites at least a few times per day, versus just one-third (34.0%) of men. The Burst study found that one-half (49.1%) of respondents proudly display brand loyalty online, happy to frequently or occasionally “like” or follow brand-name products on social media for their whole virtual world to see. Women lead the way in this consumer-conscious corner of social media as well, with 58.1% of moms following brands on social media …

SEC`s Schapiro “Optimistic” on Money Fund Reform Reuters U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro said on Thursday she is “optimistic” that more of her fellow commissioners will warm to her plan to reform the $2.6 trillion money market fund industry.
Schapiro made her comments before a U.S. House Oversight panel just a few days after agency staff circulated an internal draft of the proposed money market fund rules for the commissioners to review.
“I am ever the optimistic,” she told Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., who asked how she would proceed as three of the SEC`s five commissioners have expressed reservations about adopting new money market fund rules.
“Now that they have a document to look at….we`ll see where we go from there,” she said …

Ad Biz Tries to Convince Senate Dems Self-Regulation Works ADWEEK The ad industry Thursday rolled out the big guns and new data to defend its self-regulation program for online behavioral advertising to skeptical lawmakers on the Democratic-controlled Senate Commerce Committee. Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) is pushing for a Do Not Track bill. He and the other committee Dems have expressed skepticism in several privacy hearings that the ad industry can police itself to protect online consumer privacy. They`ve embraced recommendations from the Administration that there needs to be baseline privacy legislation establishing a privacy code of conduct or bill or rights. Taking the witness stand for advertisers, Bob Liodice, president and CEO of the Association of National Advertisers said the ad choices program, covering 90% of the interactive advertising business, was working, giving consumers choice to opt-out of unwanted online ads. More than one trillion of the ad choices icon is being served each month. More than one million consumers have opted out of ads …
