Rise Again: 3 Ways to Rebound When You DON'T Get the Job

You thought everything went well, loved the opportunity and are waiting for the next interview or the actual job offer. Then, you get the dreaded rejection letter or call. You can’t believe it, you get angry, disgusted, depressed.

As hard as it is to take ‘no’ for an answer, you have to move on. Realize you were up against other talented people and you can’t win every time. Can it affect you? Yes, it can and will. How you handle it will make a big difference. Follow this advice and you’ll jump right back into the battle to win another day:

1. Don’t pretend it didn’t happen. Talk about it. If someone recommended you for the opportunity, let them know you didn’t get it. Tell you friends and family. Everyone has been through this. They can help you and motivate you.

2. Don’t take it personally. Don’t keep replaying the interview in your head. Asking yourself what went wrong, won’t get you any answers. The company hired the person they thought was best. Usually, it is based on multiple things. If you were yourself and presented yourself the best you could have, then it’s the company’s loss.

3. Do something to reward yourself. You were part of the process. You got to the interview stage so you did well. If you feel that you did not get the job for a particular reason, fix it. Take classes, network more, try different search methods. But also have that favorite food, take a long walk, do some volunteer work. Clear your head, then …

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again.
