What Facebook and Buffett Share: The Importance of Content Visibility

content-visibilityWhat do Facebook investors & Warren Buffett have in common?

They both have been investing heavily in content. And ultimately, the eyeballs that follow it (It just so happens that Facebook investors view social as the future, Warren looks to newspapers).

 Why is content so important?

Content is simply the hook by which companies can gain the eyeballs of consumers, and in turn, gain their dollars, and repeat purchase.

It is the gateway to connection and revenue. Content is the means for the ongoing nurturing of a relationship.

Consider that the seismic growth of all great businesses in the post-industrial age (i.e. the information age) has been due to content. These companies simply created the platforms, and each of the “Big Four” success stories of our modern era do it better than anyone else:

  • Amazon – Sells content
  • Apple – Simplified content consumption
  • Google – Helps you find content
  • Facebook – Helps you share content

From a marketing perspective, becoming visible on the platforms that reach your intended audience is the most important initiative you can undertake to drive leads and sales. When your audience raises their hands on Facebook and Google and you aren’t visible, they will likely go to your competitors.

This is a zero sum game all marketers are playing. Creating content is only half the battle, the next part is optimizing it properly for maximum visibility.
