Now as top health/science and food communications agencies, we are proud of what we've built over the years...

Not only did the network's reputation suffer as a result of these botched firings, ratings plummeted and network executives were vilified in the court of public opinion.

 | Anderson Cooper Comes Out: A CNN Ratings Push or PR Play? Public Relations...By Ben Piper, President, Ben Piper Consulting I must confess that I don't watch Anderson Cooper and haven't in a couple of years, but I do keep up with the news and Cooper's ratings have been in the tank for about that long.Marketers often talk about the importance of being authentic. The philosophy is that if you are just yourself and convey that to people, they will flock to you. Perhaps Cooper's public announcement of his sexual preference is a ploy by the marketing folks at CNN to boost ratings by having him suddenly come across as "authentic."

 | Stock Selection by Astrology? Not According to the SEC IR Therefore I Am... By Gene Marbach There are quite a few theories for forecasting the direction of the market. The Hemline Theory is one. According to its devotees, when women's hemlines are up, so goes the market and when they are lower, the market heads down. There's also the "Super Bowl Indicator," which posits that a Super Bowl win by a team from the old American Football League (now the AFC) foretells a decline in the market. And, so it goes...

 | Marketers Take Mobile Ads for a Test Drive BusinessWeek In the next few weeks, some iPhone users will start seeing mobile ads from Samsung, one of Apple's (AAPL) biggest competitors and the maker of the hit Galaxy phone. The ads will offer as much as $300 to people who trade in their Apple device for a Samsung. The company's strategy is just one sign of a nascent boom in mobile advertising, which to date has fallen short of expectations, in part because the limited screen real estate makes it hard to craft ads that don't annoy users. Even as smartphones account for 10 percent of the time spent consuming media, they draw only 1 percent of advertising spending in the U.S., according to researcher EMarketer. That's changing as more technology companies, including the social media powerhouses, create mobile ad products and woo big brands such as Target (TGT), American Express (AXP), and Coca-Cola (KO). Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAC) predicts the mobile advertising market will surge to $18.3 billion in 2015, from $3.6 billion last year ...

 | Public Stations May Get OK for Political Ads Seattle Post Intelligencer A federal court decision has created the possibility that some public television and radio stations that are perpetually challenged financially could see a windfall of cash from political advertising.Stations that get that chance would have to weigh whether the money is worth the risk of alienating their audiences. The U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled in April that federal law prohibiting public broadcasters from airing political or issue advertising is unconstitutional, even though the same court said a ban on commercials by for-profit products could stand. The U.S. Justice Department must decide by next week whether to ask the court to reconsider its divided decision, or bring an appeal to the Supreme Court ...
