UPDATE: Mr. Magazine Speaks Out On TIME Cover
TIME Shows PR Pros How to Milk a Story
When it comes to cross-platform buzz, Time Warner is on fire. ”It’s a brilliant move,” according to Samir “Mr. Magazine™” Husni, Ph.D., and founder of the Magazine Innovation Center at the University of Mississippi.
The media conglomerate turned to its very own network, CNN, and the aptly named “Starting Point,” Thursday to show the world the provocative May 21st TIME cover showing blonde bombshell Jamie Lynn Grumet breast-feeding her 3-year-old son.
The cover photo was then loaded onto TIME’s Facebook page, where it had been liked 14,000 times by late afternoon. Business Insider Twitter post about the “attachment parenting” magazine piece at noon had scored 140 retweets five hours later.
A review of Critical Mention revealed 3,783 broadcast mentions by 12 p.m. EST Friday with a large chunk stemming from national programming. This includes morning talk shows Thursday that had mothers flailing their arms in the air over the topic, and more conservative political programs that conducted extensive debates on the issue.
If the image is already creating this much activity across print, social platforms and broadcast outlets, one can safely assume that the unconventional cover will continue to be the new “it” topic amongst broadcast programming for the remainder of the week.
Let us know if you’d like an update on this story today. We’d be happy to walk you through the Critical Mention platform and see what second-day angles are developing around the attachment parenting topic.
