Ann Curry Will Be Exiting “Today”
The NBC morning show host is reported to be leaving the show before coverage of the Summer Olympic Games begins.
Curry, 55, has been in the limelight on NBC for 15 years. After the recent reports showed “Today” ratings slipping, Curry became a target for criticism.
Among those taking pot shots was Gawker.com, which snapped, “Everybody hates her.”
NBC is getting a reputation of spending big bucks to oust their TV stars. They sent Conan O’Brien off on his merry way with a heaping sum of $45 million when they fired him from ‘The Tonight Show’ in 2010. Curry’s settlement is reported to be as high as $10 million.
Despite talk of any concrete reasons for Curry being taken off the air, there has been quite a bit of chatter about it on television recently.

To Gawker.com – Everyone hates her??? I don’t. Let’s get some substance into these stories. Curry is a seasoned pro. I feel sorry for her that she has been treated as a commodity by the network. As for Gawker.com, I’m insulted and amazed that you claim to represent all people. No one I know hates her, so who are you referring to? NBC – you need to realistically look at your journalists and get more serious. I happen to see those morning shows while at physical therapy and I couldn’t believe how shallow they are. I know they are a necessary evil, but it is truly poor – from a public relations aspect – to treat your employees that way, especially after years of service.
Screw Gawker! Ann Curry is an outstanding journalist who doesn’t deserve the insults laid upon her by the hackers and whackers at Gawker who have no journalistic talents or savvy whatsoever. In fact, it appears those at Gawker don’t have many constructive things to do other than hurl stones. When real journalists all disappear thanks to fools at vacuous sites like Gawker, who will provide us with real, vetted, researched news? Blog monkeys? Facebook commenters? Hackers?
I’ve been a big fan of Ann Curry’s since she worked at KCBS in LA in the 80′s. She is solid, dependable, a true journalist. Her treatment by NBC is less than shoddy and she has shown herself to a true trooper by showing a brave, professional face. What a shame if Today replaces her with a giddy, bubbleheaded version of Ryan Seacrest!
Replacing Ann Curry with Savannah Guthrie is a downgrade. Ann Curry has superior journalistic credentials and presence. The decision to have Savannah is totally absurd and mean spirited. I just do not get it.
